Quality Time !

RED WATER
Today I had Buddy and BJ Blackmon on board to spend some quality time together and rip some lips.
We started out hitting the outer rigs where the bigger trout were hanging lately and found the prettiest water I have seen in a while with the only thing lacking was the tide.
The trout were being uncooperative as we tried several spots with no luck other than a monster 40# Black Drum and some trash fish with a few trout in the mix.
As the winds started to grow Buddy said they wanted some reds so to the marsh we went.
Once we arrived at the honey hole we slowly trolled the shoreline till Buddy struck first with the rod folded over like a pretzel with a nice red busting the surface trying to escape the hookset.
Once we set the power Pole they started slamming reds on every cast filling the 120 qt with no problem.
BJ found the sweet spot and while they were slamming them two at a time I just couldn’t resist throwing my topwater bait in there to see that water explode and that’s exactly what happened with a monster red knocking the bait two feet out the water…talk about make my day !!!
Well we continued to slam reds at will till they had their limit with plenty of 27 to 30″ released to wear some one else out till the guys said they were wore out and ready for the barn.
With that I said last cast and put a bait in a pocket the size of a 5 gallon bucket and BAM, a nice 18″ trout came to the boat !
Well that raised their eyebrows and BJ said do it again and your’e gonna have three baits in that hole before you know it!
Next cast and Bam another nice trout came to the box and you would have thought they just took an energy drink they jumped in there so quick!!!
It was as if the fish had their nose sticking out the grass waiting for the bait to get to them as the guys started swinging some pretty trout from 16 to 18″ over the gunnel.
That lasted for the next thirty minutes and we finished the day with full box of reds and trout and a couple of wore out fisherman that were rubbing their arms on the way in.
It is always a blast to fish with the Blackmons for the past ten years and I think I have figured it out that they mostly come down to take their frustrations out on me from all the pressure they take on their jobs sitting behind their desk in their air conditioned offices eating all those crispy cremes !!!!
As always we had a ball and caught a pile of fish and Buddy being the nice guy he is brought a box of reds back to Bruce in Mobile…what a guy!
